Going Bananas In Biology!
Laboratory and Field Proficiencies
MICROSCOPE
While taking General Bio my freshman year, I was first introduced to the light microscope. Throughout the years of taking Anatomy and Physiology, and micro, I mastered the skill of identifying the different types of cells and tissues.
Electrophoresis
Gel electrophoresis is a method that is used for separating and analyzing macromolecules such as DNA. I have done gel electrophoresis in my General Bio class, and in my Investigation and Research course. The photo to the right is a gel ran in my Biomolecules lab.
Spectrophotometry
I was first introduced to the spectrophotometer during my biomolecules course. Spectrophotometry is a tool that measures the reflection or transmission properties of wavelength.

Differential Test
During my microbiology course, I learned about the different types of bacteria based on their morphology by using the gram staining technique. At the end of this course, I used this method to figure out my unknown strains of bacteria. The photo on the right are photos showing different types of bacteria on a petri dish.
